About Smt Dia Trina Chakravarty

Smt Dia Trina Chakravarty is a well known dance teacher and performer within the Asian community. Born and brought up in the United Kingdom, Dia was first introduced to the splendours of classical Bharatanatyam at the tender age of six when she received her initial training under Smt Sheela Shridhar of Mysore. This intial and brief introduction to the art form sparked great enthusiasm and interest in Dia which she demonstrated a natural flair to.  With the support and dedication of her parents, she then went on to receive further training under tutelage and guidance of the renowned Bharatanatyam dance teacher. performer and choreographer  Sri Prakash Yadegudde at the Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan ( West Kensington, London) whom she remains a disciple of for the past 30 years. Over the years Dia has also received extensive training under the renowned gurus and maestros of the Bharatanatyam field including  Padma Shri Aramel Valli, Padma Shri Chitra Viseswaran,  Late Krishna Veni Lakshmanan and Kalaimamani Late Dr. Saraswati Sundaresan  are to name a few.

Dia initially graduated with a diploma in Bharatanataym at the age of 10 but continued her training in Bharatanatyam which led to the attainment  of her Arrangetram ( first professional debut performance) and hence achieved a professional status in the field of Bharatanatyam.

Dia has performed at many prestigious venues. These include the British Museum, One world peace festival, Fire Brigade Association, The Royal Festival Hall,  The Bharatiya Vidhya Centre UK. In addition she has also  had the honour and pleasure to perform for George Harrison, The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, The Indian High Commission, The Maharaja of Udaipur, BBC Asian Network,  Kenneth Clarke MP and Ken Livingstone.

Dia has also been involved in many community projects and out reach programmes to promote diversity amongst the ethnic minority. Such projects include the collaboration with the performing arts company Out of A Dream- bring performing arts in to the healthcare sector.

 It is Dia's aim to continue to promote the art of classical Bharatanatyam and India's diverse culture and heritage within UK .
